Decks/Porches

Many home owners expect local building officials to ensure that decks are properly built, but this is a risky assumption. Although nearly all municipalities require decks to be built "to code", it is your choice of contractor that will determine the quality and safety factors of your project. There are a lot of unsafe situations that can be created by poor craftsmanship and use of methods that are not recommended or contrary to building codes. New decks and porches are build according to strict guidelines and requirements. Since January 2008, there have been 2,252 porch complaints called in to the City of Chicago. Use of a professional, licensed company with a lot of experience is a must but it is worth your peace of mind. Even though constructing and caring for decks, porches and gazebos can take a lot of work, it is well worth it for the beautiful outdoor space they provide. Safety comes first though.
